The United States House of Representatives is voting today to kick the Speaker, Kevin McCarthy, out of his position. By the end of today we will know if McCarthy is still Speaker.
In Canada, a new Speaker for Parliament was elected this morning. Greg Ferguson is the new one, replacing Anthony Rota, who made the embarrassing mistake of honouring a Nazi when the President of Ukraine addressed our Parliament.
Greg Fergus first came to the House of Commons as a parliamentary page, sitting at the foot of the Speaker’s chair and serving water to MPs — only one of whom is still a sitting member of Parliament.
