Have you ever said or heard, “It was just meant to be.” or “The universe is unfolding as it should.” or “Que sera, sera.” Or “Shit happens.”?
Have you ever thought that maybe- just maybe – things such as the extinction of certain animals like dinosaurs was actually supposed to happen? Maybe global warming is supposed to happen. That maybe it’s part of a grand scheme of things?
I spent yesterday on the internet trying to find an answer. Of course there is so much information, it becomes mind boggling. But after a time, I did find one theory that parallels my train of thought in this matter. It even has a name. It’s called predeterminism. The definition is this:
Predeterminism is the philosophy that all events of history, past, present and future, have been already decided or are already known (by God, fate, or some other force), including human actions.
Maybe it was predetermined that I should even think about this possibility. And if you’re reading this and thinking, “Gary’s lost it!, maybe that was already decided for you too.
Maybe it has been predetermined that the extinction of certain species, man included, is inevitable.
Does that mean we should abandon our values, our sense of right and wrong and our religious beliefs if we have any? Because it won’t matter anyway? Because it’s already decided whether we go to heaven or hell (if there is one)? And for atheists………well, I don’t know where atheists are supposed to go….limbo I guess.
I leave those questions for you to ponder. Everyone will have their own thoughts on this. Your answer will be right for you. It’s predetermined!
