Stairs for Minnie

This is what MY Jane and I refer to as “Minnie’s Window”.

It used to have a bookcase beneath it as is pictured below, until I built the secret bookcase, subject of a previous blog post.

We would leave the window open and Minnie was able to jump from the back of the sofa onto the top of the bookcase, then up and out through the window. Minnie loved this because she could come and go when she wanted.

There are advantages and disadvantages to leaving this window open. The advantage, of course, is that we don’t have to constantly open the door to let her in and out.

We have had a couple of examples of disadvantages, though. One time a baby bunny fell through the window and Minnie chased it all over the place until it hid under the buffet.
Another time, when I was up at the boat and Jane was here alone, a neighbourhood Siamese cat sneaked in and got into a big cat fight with Minnie at about 3 AM terrifying Jane, who initiated strong defensive actions by stomping her feet on the upstairs floor and clapping loudly. You may laugh, but it was very effective. The intruding cat beat a hasty retreat through Minnie’s window, knocking over several candle holders in the process. None were damaged, though. Minnie was left hissing and growling for sometime after.

The purpose for this lengthy preamble is to answer the question that several people have posed, that being, “What’s your next woodworking project going to be?”

The answer, of course, is to make window stairs for Minnie. I’ll post a picture when they’re done.
