Yesterday, MY Jane and I decided to take a little trip down to the Barrie Woodworkers Club in Barrie’s Victoria Village. We were given a tour and information about the club and how it works by the on-duty monitor, a friendly chap, Lucien.
While there, we observed several members working on different projects. The shop is very well equipped with pretty well everything a woodworker might need.
I am seriously thinking about becoming a member. It’s about $100 a year and, for that, you have full access to all the equipment. It’s also warm in there.
Later, we stopped off at a Deli and Bakery recommended by Chris. It’s called Foxs and, just like Chris said, the food there is delicious. We each got a sandwich on freshly baked rolls and purchased some fresh bread and butter tarts. A busy place.
On the way home, we noticed all kinds of activity on the ice of Kempenfelt Bay. There were ice fisherman in their huts, ATV’s zipping around, people playing with remote controlled cars, and people trekking from one side of the bay to the other. The ice is about 18 inches thick and there were even cars out on the ice.

Woodworkers club sounds like a great idea; every machine you could possibly want to remove a finger or two. I don't know how they handle insurance, but it must be a concern for the organizers.

(Sorry – hit enter too soon.) But having said that it's a terrific opportunity to get access to tools and, I expect, no shortage of good advice from other woodworkers.

They do insist on an orientation period and also that safety equipment be worn. Anytime you're around saws and the like, you have to be so very careful. Whenever I work with my table saw, I keep my hands and fingers well away from the blade and I always stop it completely before going anywhere near it. You just can't be in a rush when using equipment like this.
